Part Four: Filling out your Vision Board and Yearly Goal Planning pages
Here in the final part of our series, we will discuss a super important part of your Knitter’s Planner- the Vision Board and Yearly Goal setting pages. These pages lay the framework for your year, and we encourage you to take the time to complete them!
If you haven’t already set your goals for 2022, this can be a time consuming process, but every moment you spend on this will pay dividends throughout the year!
You may want to consider scheduling a goal-setting retreat. This is a set-aside time (you can make it a getaway or do this at home) to remove yourself from your daily tasks, unplug, connect with your thoughts, and get some clarity about the things you want for your life. Setting aside this time may feel hard, but it will save you lots of wasted time and effort chasing after the wrong things. This is where you decide on big picture goals to guide your choices through the year. Think of it as laying a foundation for the decisions you make about your time in 2022.
During your retreat, take time to consider what a successful life looks like for you. “Success” is going to look and feel different for each person. Here are some examples of things that may be important to you:
“I want to become an expert in my field and grow my career.”
“I want to be the kind of person that makes others feel important.”
“I want my body to feel healthy and capable.”
“I want to be reliable for my family.”
“I want to be well-educated.”
“I want to grow in my spiritual life.”
“I want to live in a way that protects the environment.”
“I want to live debt-free.”
Next, think about what big goals you can set this year to start living in a way that is more aligned with who you want to be. Remember that these goals should be defined, measurable and achievable.
For example, “I want to live debt-free” may turn into a goal of “I will pay off half of my student loan in 2022”. “I want my body to feel healthy and capable” may turn into “I will switch to anti-inflammatory eating in 2022.”
Write down all the big goals you may want to achieve in 2022, and then whittle it down to the three most important. It’s tempting to want to do more than that, but expecting too much change in one year is a recipe for failure. Don’t rush yourself- small changes over time are the most effective.
Once you have your three big goals, you can write them in your Planner along with 5-8 steps for each that you’ll need to take to achieve them. As you go through your year, don’t forget about your big goals! The monthly goal setting pages are designed as an opportunity to look back at your big goals and get back on track if needed.
Congratulations! You and your Knitter’s Planner are now ready to take on 2022!
